Ios
Ios is a Cycladic island of Aegean Sea. The surface of Ios is estimated 108.713 km while it has a coastal length of 87 km. It is located among Naxos, Sikinos and Thira. The most important bays of the island are Gialos, Milopotas and Maganari.
The stone-built Faros of Ios is at the entrance of the port. Faros is visit able following a route from the area “Koubara”of Ios. An equal of importance major sight of the island is the theatre “OdysseasElytis”, an open theatre of Ancient Greek type designed by the german architect and lover of Ios, Peter Haupt. The theatre “OdysseasElytis” can host at its marble stands 1.100 spectators and its orientation offers a spectacular view to Aegean.
Although the island is mostly known for its parties and nightlife, the island of Homer can offer beautiful beaches for every visitor. Milopota’s Βeach is the most known beach of the island and despite the many tourists who choose has been awarded with a blue flag because of its so clear waters. The beach is covered with golden fine sand and offers many choices for water sports, food, cocktails but vigorous dancing too.
Also awarded with a Blue Flag is Magganari Beach where four consecutive beaches compose an impressive lagoon. The warm waters and the golden sand compose a fairy tale scenery and confirm the reason why it was chosen for the film “Endless Blue”.
Besides these beaches that anyone can distinguish in Iosas equally beautiful are other coasts like Xourmoulades which you can visit only by boat, Koubara, a sandy beach suitable for the ones who look for a more peaceful solution to their swimming and many more.
